Marjorie P. Meneely of Washington, died on July 29, 2025, in her home. She was born July 3, 1926, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Ralph and Wilma McConnell Paxton. Marjorie graduated from Chartiers Township High School in 1944, from Penn Commercial College in 1945 and attended Muskingum College for one year. On September 17, 1949, she married Robert J. Meneely. The couple lived in State College, Brookville, Clearfield, Latrobe, Chartiers Township, Hopewell Township, Corry and Houston. He died on October 5, 2012. As teenagers, she and her two sisters, Doris and Isabelle, sang three-part harmony at church, school and community events. They were known as the Paxton Sisters Trio. Mrs. Meneely was formerly employed in the offices of the Flannery Bolt Co., the Washington County Fire Insurance Co., the W.S. George Pottery Co., Penn State University, the Steele Electric Co. in Brookville, and as an aide with the Corry Area School District. Mrs. Meneely was a member of the Washington Presbyterian Church in America. While in Corry she was a Women's Association member, choir member and Sunday School teacher at the First Presbyterian Church. She had been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in New Mexico and the National Park Service on Cumberland Island, Georgia. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, walking, being with family and friends and traveling with her husband. Surviving are two sons, Scott (Kelly) Meneely of Lebanon, TN, James (Shelly) Meneely of Anaheim, CA, one daughter, Gail (Garret) Nelson of Apex, NC; two granddaughters, Erin (Tom) Nobles and Leah Nelson; two great-granddaughters, Nora and Harper Nobles; two step-grandchildren, Justin Heller and Heather Oeland; two step-great-grandchildren, Dakota Wollet and Merrick Oeland; her sister, Isabelle Alderson of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, her sister, Doris P. Riggle is deceased. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., the time of service in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home, Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
