Mark Barefoot Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by West & Dunn Funeral Home - Newton Grove on Jan. 5, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnny "Mark" Barefoot, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 67. Mark was a man whose laughter filled every room, whose love for his family was boundless, and whose passion for life was unmatched.
Born on March 20, 1957, Mark grew up with a deep connection to the land and a love for farming that stayed with him throughout his life. Whether tending to crops or caring for his hogs, Mark took pride in the work that sustained his family and community. However, his greatest joy was always found in the company of his loved ones.
He is survived by his children Aaron Barefoot, Ross Barefoot (his wife Brittany), and Megan Stewart (her husband Alan), who were the center of his world. He is also remembered by his former wife, Donna, with whom he shared many years and together raised a loving family. Mark was the proud grandfather "Pa" of seven grandchildren, Kasey, Chance, Ava, Mary Adaline, Abi, Nora, and Allie Ross. They brought immense joy to his life, and his legacy lives on in the love he shared with them.
Mark is cherished by his parents, Mary and JL Barefoot. He is also deeply missed by his siblings: Joan Daniels (Roy), Jeanne Kitchin (Aubrey), Alan Barefoot (Teresa), Tim Barefoot (Tiffany) and he was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Beyond his family, Mark was a man who loved life's simple pleasures. He was always ready with a joke or a funny story, bringing laughter to every gathering. Whether spending time with his parents, playing horseshoes with his brothers, or sharing stories around the dinner table, Mark had a way of making those around him feel special and appreciated.
Mark's joy was contagious, his big heart, and his spirit unbreakable. He will be missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and anyone who had the privilege of sharing in his warmth and laughter.
A celebration of Mark will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on January 6th at 11:00, followed by a graveside service at Unity Presbyterian Church.
Rest in peace, Mark. You will be forever remembered for your laughter, your love, and the warmth you brought into the lives of those who knew you.

How does one begin to describe "Mark"? He was bigger than life, and he loved the land. Standing with him in his fields sampling his strawberries and other fruits was always a delicious treat. His smile, his laughter was always fun. Knowing that he now rests in the arms of the Lord is a comfort - but His farm will never be the same. When several members of the family visited us a short time ago, it was such a blessing when Mark showed up with them.
That will always remain as a special memory. I think maybe the Lord needed some help growing strawberries. We will miss you. Uncle Granville and Aunt Sybil
