Mark was born and raised in Central Oregon on 7/13/1953 and loved all it had to offer him. Hunting, fishing, making music with his friends, exploring the desert, all the lakes, camping, skiing at Mt. Bachelor, cooking, watching old movies, taking a good road trip and partying with all his many friends. Mark passed on 12/12/2024 due to result of kidney failure. He chose not to do dialysis and went as he wanted, at home.
Besides his many friends, he leaves behind his daughter Misty Fee and 4 grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor, Keenan and Kadenn; his siter Carla Hunt, along with his nieces Chanie Skinner (and Mark) and Charease Mink (and KC), and their children Kailan, Karli, Rosie, James; and his Madden, Smith and McClain families.
He was preceded in death by his father Lee Carlton, and his mother Eloise Carlton McClain and stepfather Jim McClain.
Mark started working at a pretty young age at his dad's auto parts store stocking shelves and learning his mechanical abilities. He then worked at Willamette Ski area for a couple of years and then went to work for the State of Oregon highway department and was awarded a certificate of merit for pulling a man from a burning car on the Santiam Pass. His latest job was for D&S Hydraulics as an on-the-road salesman. He and his dog Budweiser traveled extensively throughout the state of Oregon for his work, enjoying the time spent on the road. Upon retirement, he was able to dedicate more time to fishing, hunting, adding to his many collections, friends and attempting to garden in Central Oregon.
He will be great missed by his family and friends. We will celebrate him April 5 at the Elks Lodge from 2-5. Please bring memories, stories, and pictures to share. Donations may be made in his name to Deschutes Historical Society or any charity that has to do with hunting or fishing. That would please Mark as he loved Bend and all his hunting and fishing adventures.
