Hampton, Va. – Mark Howard Friedman, 76, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022. Mark was a native and lifelong resident of the peninsula. He graduated from Newport News High School in 1965. He was owner and operator of Mark Friedman's Jewelry, Yorktown for 38 years. He was a member of the York Exchange Club, and active with local DARE programs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seymour (Spud) and Pauline Friedman, and his son Steve Ridgill, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debi Friedman; his son Frank Bouska; his daughter, Stacey Friedman; his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and LeeAnn Friedman; his nephews, Adam and Jason Friedman; and 2 grandchildren, Avery and Summer.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 29, in Amory Funeral Home Chapel, with Rabbi Severine Sokol officiating. Local arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va.

So sorry to learn of your passing because you had been my jeweler for the last 30 years and went to your store that use to be in Grafton Virginia to find out that it was closed and when I went online to see where you had moved to and learned of your passing. My condolences to your family.

We just learned of Mr. Friedman´s passing. My condolences to his family. He was one of the nicest people in Yorktown. He´s been my jeweler for many years. My parents were also his customers. Mr. Friedman will certainly be missed.

Mark and I owned businesses next to each other at Washington Square and spoke every day, sometimes multiple times each day, six days a week for five years. I knew him deeply and considered him a close friend, sharing so much in our business and personal lives. He took the long view of business, believing customers were not as a transaction but rather a series of transactions over a lifetime. He never deviated from this core character, even if it meant losing a sale. As a result, he was rewarded with lifelong customers and friendships.

Mark was five years older than me, and his passing reminds me and others of our generation that the end finds us all. Life, in the interim, is for the living; we are here for a short time. In our time, we should do our best while celebrating and remembering our reputations and good experiences live long after we are gone.

Mark is and was a model of honesty and character, and he will be missed.

I remember Mark very well. My dad opened the deli back when the shopping center was new. I was really fascinated with watches at a young age and I remember getting several watches over my youth from his jewelry store. I had a lot of great memories from my dad's deli (Mark's Deli) and going next door to say hi. I had found memories of Friedmans jewlers. Mark was well liked I know that, and I'll miss seeing him on Facebook. I learned that you were recently not well. You don't have to suffer anymore. Much love

Debi and Family. It is with a grieving heart I send my condolences. Mark was always so kind and generous to me while we were all living in TX. Including when I hit the deers while driving your mustang. Too many good memories.
