Mark Hobson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, LTD. on Nov. 25, 2025.

Mark H Hobson, age 65 of Libertyville, IL, passed away on November 24, 2025. He was born on January 14, 1960 to Stanley and Virginia C (Heatherly) Hobson.

Mark is survived by his wife of 40 years Michelle M Hobson, his daughter Cassandra L Geske (Matt), and his son Christian S Hobson (Elizabeth); his brothers Jeff (Colleen) and Christopher (Cindy), and his sister Laurie (Rich) Eckert; grandson Finley Geske, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents (Stanley and Virginia Clare), his sister Stephanie Gutner and his infant brother Stanley Jr.

Mark grew up in Mundelein, IL and in his youth he joined the Boy Scouts of America which ultimately led to a lifetime commitment to that organization. As a youth he attained the rank of Eagle and was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. As an adult in scouting he was an Assistant Scout Master in Troop 71 and active in both the Wilderness Engineering Society and the Tamarack Social Club, spending countless volunteer hours at Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan in Pearson, WI. Some of his closest friends are scouting friends.

Upon graduating from Mundelein H.S. in 1978, he attended the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with emphasis in Deviance and Social Control as well as Family and Socialization.

After graduating from college, Mark spent his entire 30-year career in law enforcement. The majority of his service was with the County of Lake as a Deputy Sheriff, working in the jail, work release, courts, patrol, and detective bureau. His favorite position was during his time in the Detective Bureau where he was assigned to the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (LCMEG) as an undercover narcotics Agent/Supervisor.

Outside of work, Mark loved scuba diving with his wife, cheering on the Chicago Bears, biking, smoking meat or a great cigar, working on his 1952 Studebaker truck with his son Christian, and giving his time and talent at both community and religious functions.

In 2012 Mark converted to Catholicism and became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville. He was heavily involved with ministries and faith groups including the Men's Ministry, Adult Formation, Social Justice (Food Pantry, Bed Building, Soup Kitchen), and Knights of Columbus. He and Michelle attended daily mass the past 13 years and established very cherished friendships through faith.

After a lifetime of service, it was only appropriate that Mark donated his organs to help save lives.

Revelation 3:20-22

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, (then) I will enter his house and dine with him and he with me. I will grand the victor the right to sit with me on my throne, as I myself won the victory and sit with my Father on his throne.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2025 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) in Libertyville. A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Ave. in Libertyville.
