Obituary
Mark was born on December 16, 1970, to Ray Maxey and Maxine Maxey in Silver City, New Mexico. Mark attended Smoky Hill High School and was passionate about Football and Track and Field. He has lived throughout the Southwest, and made friends in every state, from Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, but he was a son of New Mexico. This could be witnessed by his love of all things New Mexican, especially the food.
Professionally, he was a Master Diesel Technician for over 30 years. He loved solving technically difficult problems, serving people, and sharing his vast knowledge with new techs and old at the many organizations that he was a part of.
Mark's personal philosophy expressed a voracious passion for knowledge that he shared with the pride of his life, his two sons Jeremiah Maxey & LaShawn Maxey. He was a gentle talker who spoke quietly. This habit of talking in a lower volume meant that when Mark spoke you had to really "pay attention" to what he said. He also believed in self-discovery of knowledge, so would often answer a question with a question, to force you to think critically, often answering your own questions. He would sometimes resort to getting out his dictionary and having you look up specific words in your question to provide you with clarity on coming up with your own solution. His philosophy led him to collect an impressive library of knowledge in the form of books, that he to great joy in hunting for at libraries, books stores, and in the library of friends.
If you knew Mark, you knew that he was kind and loving and cared deeply for those that were lucky enough to call him family or friend. He was also one, who would not tolerate a fool. He had an immense passion for his two sons, Jeremiah and LaShawn, and was always a source of love and light to them.
Remaining to cherish Mark's gift of life are, his sons, Jeremiah & LaShawn; his former partner, Lottie Hurtt; his father, Ray T. Maxey, his mother, Maxine Maxey, his stepmother, Nicolasa Maxey; his brothers, Ray A. Maxey, Henry C. Maxey, Damon N. Maxey; his sisters, Jacquelyn Mudd, Gabrielle Sykes-Maxey, his 6 nieces & 4 nephews, his many aunts & uncles, his numerous cousins, and other family members, along with his friends.
There will be a memorial reception held at 2:00 pm, January 6, 2022, at Pipkin Braswell Funeral Home & Cremation, 6601 E. Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80220.
