Mark Meehan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville on Dec. 19, 2025.
Mark Howard Meehan, 68, passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2025, at his home in Louisville.
Born on September 3, 1957 in New Albany, IN he was a quietly adventurous soul with many life chapters and the third of six children of John C. and Geneva "Midge" Meehan.
A life-long Louisvillian, he worked as a championship -winning trainer of saddle-bred horses, then as a commercial truck driver and as a long-time Kroger employee.
The words "gentle" and "kind" are used most by family, friends and neighbors to describe him.
But, also, often, handsome, as Mark was the only sibling to get both the tall and skinny genes.
Mark helped with no fuss, sometimes without having to be asked and rarely having to be asked twice.
It might be a seemingly simple thing like making sure your trash got to the dumpster when the sidewalks were slick. Or a big commitment of taking in a pet whose owner was facing a long medical treatment and recovery.
He was curious and exceedingly and creatively smart, enjoying photography, music, kayaking and travel.
And, for better or worse, Mark was an ardent fan of U of L sports.
He is preceded in death by his father, John C. Meehan
He is survived by his mother, Geneva "Midge" Grant Meehan; siblings, Patrick Michael Meehan (Elizabeth), Gwen Meehan Meyers (Frank), Kathleen Meehan, Teresa Grider (Michael), and Mary Meehan.
Nieces and nephews, Grant Marksberry, Hunter Grider, Tanner Grider, Bailey Campagna, Edward McCubbins, Steven McCubbins, Richard McCubbins and David McCubbins.
Many great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends mourn his passing.
He is also survived by that "temporary" pet adoptee, his feline companion, Finn.
On Monday, December 22, 2025, at Ratterman's East (Middletown - Shelbyville Road), between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 pm, there will be a celebration of Mark's life.
Mark never missed a Christmas celebration without a Santa hat and you are encouraged to carry on that festive spirit with one of your own.
At 5:30 there will be an opportunity to share warm and joyful memories of a good man gone too soon.

Being one of Mark´s many cousins. My heart sank upon hearing the news about Mark. While as adults we were separated by 1,700 miles, memories from our childhood remain incredibly vivid. Mark's generosity and his infectious spirit, which always made everyone feel welcome, were truly special. Your home, with its magical backyard, was the place to be as a child. Marky was always willing to share all that he had.

My deepest condolences go out to you all, especially Aunt Gee. May you find solace in the countless beautiful moments you shared and feel uplifted by the love surrounding you.

With heartfelt sympathy,

KEVIN EDELEN
