Mark Ludwick Monroe passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Glenwood Health Care under the care of Georgia Hospice, Vidalia. He fought a prolonged battle with head and neck cancer as well as lifelong addiction.

He was born on April 27, 1960, and was a son of the late Ira Monroe and Evelyn Sisson Monroe of Cobbtown. Although he traveled over the years, he lived most of his life in the Tattnall/Evans/Candler/Toombs County areas.

Mark attended Reidsville High School (Class of ‘78) & later received his GED. He enjoyed practical jokes and often earned the ‘ire’ of his instructors & principal. He was a skilled and accredited welder and worked for Augusta Metals and other companies, often times working in claustrophobic and perilous conditions.

His greatest passion was music. Mark loved writing, playing, and collaborating on music. He was his happiest when he was playing drums with longtime friends & relatives in local clubs. Most recently with Georgia Rhythm Band and Good Time Buddies. He was also a gifted artist and could design & construct awe-inspiring pieces and realistic images. He had limitless talent and creativity.

Cancer took his body, but addiction took his soul. Yet Mark was more than his addiction. He was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, nephew, cousin, and friend. He befriended everyone he met and was witty, amiable, and a grand teller of tales. His greatest regret was being unable to fully repair his broken relationship with his sons. When he learned of his terminal illness, he requested an obituary that included “warts and all”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marcus Cayne Monroe; sister, Michelle L. Monroe.

Survivors include: his long-time partner and fiancée, Joyce Kreiser (Vidalia); family: brother & sister-in-law, Mike & Sylvia Monroe(Cobbtown); sister and brother-in-law, Mikki & Bruce Ward (Laramie, WY); sons, J.P. & Marley Bertrand (Tucson, AZ); granddaughter, Cadyn Monroe (Glennville); nieces, Shannon & Maddie Wilkes (Cobbtown); Brandy & James Bray (Vidalia). “brothers from other mothers”; Samuel Young, Michael “Redbone” Walker, and Terrell Williams.

The graveside service will held Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon in Sunlight Cemetery in Cobbtown.

Remembrances can be made to the American Cancer Society or Georgia Hospice Care, Vidalia GA. Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
