Mark Wharton Phillips was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 31, 1961, and has been a long-time resident of Bluffton, South Carolina. He was 64 years old. He passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Mark graduated from Colonial Heights High School in Colonial Heights, Virginia in 1979. He moved to the Hilton Head area in 1993 and started Phillips Electrical, a successful electrical company, which will continue operating within the family. His hobbies were traveling, boating and spending time with his family and friends.
Mark’s generosity knew no bounds; he was always the first to offer help and the last to ask for it. His dedication to his family and friends was unwavering, and his warmth made everyone he met feel like an old friend.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Nancy and his children: Bryant Phillips and his wife, Erin Cash, Tori Gutowski and her husband, Phil Gutowski, Amelia Phillips and her partner, Jon Mattocks, and Edward Lorrimer Phillips, III (Trey) and his partner, Maddy Harrison. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carter Phillips, Charlotte Phillips, Ellis Gutowski, Brinlee Phillips Cash, Winifred Gutowski, and Dakota Phillips. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen Phillips, and sisters, Catherine Phillips-Outlaw, Theresa Phillips-Foster, Susan Phillips-Sarrett, and Mary Anne Phillips-Flanagan. He is also survived by his two dogs, Lizzie and Roxie-Sweetie. His circle of devoted friends was far too large to name, a true reflection of the love he gave and received.
He was preceded by his parents, Edward Lorrimer Phillips (Col, US Army Ret.), Patricia Wharton Phillips, and a brother, Edward Lorrimer Phillips II (Bubba.)
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at a later date, bringing together all who loved him to share stories, laughter, and memories of the wonderful man he was.
