ORLEANS – Mark Shawn Qualkenbush, 49, passed away Friday, August 29, 2025, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born July 25, 1976, in Anchorage, Alaska, he was the son of Harold Mark and Bonnie (Miller) Qualkenbush. He married Melissa "Missy" Phillips on September 13, 1997 and she survives.
Mark was a 1994 graduate of Mitchell High School. He worked as a machinist at Regal Beloit and was a small arms engineering technician at NSWC Crane. Mark loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle and taking trips to Tennessee or going out west with his friends. A talented mechanic and auto body specialist, he restored a 1983 GMC pickup truck and painted it green. Mark's friends would say that he was selfless. His sister, Shannon Gene Qualkenbush; grandparents, Dean and Pauline Qualkenbush, and Raymond and Bettie Miller; and father-in-law, Jake Phillips, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 5, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Marc Fields officiating. Burial will be at Port Williams Cemetery.
