Mark Strother Obituary

Mark Twain Strother, Jr., 68, of Nevada, Texas, passed away on July 17, 2025, in Plano, Texas, with his beloved family by his side. Mark was born on February 20, 1957, in Escondido, California, to Mark Twain Strother, Sr. and Jo Ann Hemby. He was raised with strong values of hard work, perseverance, and honesty - traits he embodied throughout his life.
After graduating from high school, Mark went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. He carried the discipline and work ethic he learned there into every chapter of his life. Professionally, Mark spent most of his career working for Otis Elevator Company. He was known as a skilled and dependable tradesman who took his work seriously. Mark continued to advance himself in his career with additional certifications and education. He was a man who believed in doing things the right way and was not one to cut corners - on the job or in life.
Mark was a jack-of-all-trades. If something needed fixing, building, or improving, he was the one to call. He was the kind of person who could spend a full day working and still find the energy to help a family member or friend with a project after hours. He loved working with his hands and especially enjoyed working with wood and leather. Building things in his workshop allowed him to be creative and it was his way of relaxing and staying productive.
After retirement, you could almost always find Mark on the golf course. Golf was not just a pastime for him; he enjoyed the challenge of the game, the time outdoors, and the friendly competition with his buddies. If the weather permitted, he was playing golf. Mark also had a strong appreciation for taking care of his home, land, and family. He spent countless hours on his property, mowing, trimming, and landscaping. Keeping things neat, orderly, and well-maintained was who he was.
On March 18, 2000, Mark married Cathy Lindsey in Rockwall, Texas. Together, they shared 25 beautiful years of marriage that were filled with partnership and love. Cathy and Mark welcomed a blended family. Mark joined the union with a daughter, Madison Strother, and son, Tyler. Mark had two sons through marriage: Dennis Morrow and Jarrod "Bubba" Morrow. To Mark, there was no distinction between stepchildren and his own; he loved his boys as if they were his biological sons. He was deeply proud of all his children and was involved in their lives.
Mark was a family man in every sense. He was not someone who made a lot of big speeches about love or loyalty – he simply showed it through daily action. Mark was dependable and helpful. Mark was someone people trusted and respected. Mark had great sense of humor and sarcasm. People gravitated to him and enjoyed spending time with him. Mark always took the high road and all who knew him described his as "a great man."
Mark leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, commitment, and love for his family. He was not someone who sought attention or accolades. He simply lived through example by always putting the people he loved first. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his example will live on through the many lives he touched.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Mark Twain Strother, Sr., and Jo Ann Hemby Strother, as well as his half-brother, Danny Halstead.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy L. Strother; his daughter, Madison Strother; and his sons, Dennis Morrow and wife Krista, Jarrod Morrow and wife January, and Tyler. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Kadin, Keely, Kannon, Kelton and wife Anna, and Koby Morrow; and his great-grandchildren, Knox, Krew, Kali, Kori, Noah, Kasey, and Wrenley Morrow.
A public gathering and time of visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Reflections Chapel at Rest Haven Funeral Home, located at, 2500 State Highway 66 East, Rockwall, TX, 75087.
