Mark E Uptegrove Sr., a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at his home in Union Beach, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 17, 1962, in New Jersey, Mark lived in Hazlet, prior to moving to Union Beach in 1994.
Mark was nurtured by his late parents, Edward and Betty Jane Uptegrove. His life was a testament to the values of loyalty and kindness, which were instilled in him from a young age. Though his parents and his niece Courtney Dayback and nephew David Vendetti preceded him in death, their memories remained to be a guiding light throughout his life.
For 40 years, Mark shared an unwavering love with his wife, Jean Uptegrove, a bond that was a beacon of devotion and mutual respect. Their partnership was a cornerstone of their family, inspiring their children, Mark Uptegrove Jr. of Union Beach, Jennifer Uptegrove of Union Beach, and Erin and her husband Max Clark of Hazlet, to embrace the same values of unconditional love and support.
Mark's sister, Carol Severance, along with her husband Mark of South Carolina, will fondly remember the shared moments and enduring connection that only siblings can understand. His legacy will continue through his grandchild, who will grow up hearing tales of his grandfather's kindness and sense of humor. Mark's two beloved dogs, Harvey and Fiona, were his loyal companions, sharing in the joys of everyday life.
His service as a patrolman for the Hazlet Township Police Department showcased his commitment to community and safety, a role he fulfilled with honor until his retirement in 2013. Mark's dedication to others continued as he worked at Buhler as a transportation driver for 11 years, where he was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor.
Mark's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He loved the outdoors, whether he was perfecting his swing on the golf course, engaging in a competitive game of darts, or enjoying the camaraderie of his bowling and softball teams. His love for horse shoes and scratch-offs provided many an exciting moment and a good laugh with friends and family. Mark was also an avid TV watcher, enjoying the simple pleasure of a good show with his wife, after a day filled with activity.
But above all, Mark cherished the time spent with his family. Whether it was a quiet evening at home, a family barbecue, or a road trip, these moments were the ones he treasured the most. His love for driving was more than a hobby; it was a way for him to explore the world with those he loved by his side.
Mark's warm presence will be profoundly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, all of whom were touched by his generosity and spirit. His life was a living example of how to care for others, share joy, and create a legacy of love.
As we say goodbye to Mark, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey filled with laughter, love, and the making of countless cherished memories. His impact on the lives he touched will continue to resonate, and the stories of his kindness, humor, and love will be recounted for generations to come. Mark's spirit will forever be a part of the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, March 31st, from 3-7PM at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. Cremation will be private.
