Mark L. VanDyke, age 70, of Yorkville, IL, formerly of Naperville, passed away on December 24, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on May 23, 1954, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Ward L. and Helen (Hall) VanDyke. Mark was a 1972 graduate of North Clay High School in Louisville, Illinois and 1974 graduate of Olney Central College. He later graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from Eastern Illinois University.
He met his wife Marcia at EIU, and they spent the next 48 years together. Mark retired from his employer, Yellow Freight Systems, after 33 award-winning years. Mark particularly enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, mushroom hunting, coaching, and cheering from the sidelines. He never ever forgot his roots as a farm boy from south/central Illinois. Mark was always ready to lend a helping hand to everybody, deliver home-cooked meals to his children, or share stories and laughter. Mark was very, very proud of his two sons and their families. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville, the Tiger Athletic Association in Aurora, and Moose International. Mark was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by sons Christopher (Amber) and Phillip (Becky); his grandchildren Colton, Luke, Henry, and Cora; brother Monte (Susan); sister – in laws Sabra, Christine, Nancy, Jan, and brother- in law Pete; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Martha (Harold) Deain and Jean Baker, and brothers, Doug (Sabra) and Robert (Christine) VanDyke.
A special thanks to all who visited Mark and kept he and his family in their prayers during their time of need and continue to do so.
