Mark Anthony Zerhusen, 61, of Independence, KY passed away on Saturday June 21, 2025. Born on February 10, 1964 in Covington, KY, he was the son of George "Tag" Zerhusen, Sr. and Dorothy "Dottie" Lonnemann Zerhusen.
Mark was previously a parishioner of Holy Cross Church and a graduate of Holmes High School. In his teenage years, he enjoyed a variety of past times including chess, bowling, track, football and baseball. Mark practiced the martial art of karate and he formerly served as an auxiliary police officer for Covington Police Department. He worked for many years in the roofing industry, most recently employed by Mueller Roofing Distributors.
Though not a fan of horror movies, he braved watching them because his daughter Heather enjoyed doing so (he watched, face covered, from in between his fingers). He preferred classics like Grease, Armageddon, and Twister. He had to watch at least once a year his all-time favorites The Fighting Sullivans and The Year Without A Santa Claus. Mark loved to tease his daughter Brittany-moving her placemat at the kitchen table, chewing loudly and making awful dad jokes. Mark adored music of nearly all genres, from 70s rock, to country, to nu metal to oldies and classical music and beyond. He loved to talk about this, nerdy things and life.
A truly selfless person, Mark never was one to speak ill of others. He would listen intently and genuinely when someone needed an ear. Incredibly likable, he would also lend a hand even before someone asked for help. He took initiative and responsibility in any situation and worked extremely hard always. In his life, Mark helped to manage two different companies and was the go-to guy for expertise. He put everyone before himself. Mark was sensitive and he didn't care if people saw him cry. A perpetual tease and a troll, you knew Mark really loved you if he picked on you. You could always tell where he had been by the trail of mint wrappers he left behind him.
Mark was the beloved husband of 40 years to Karen Zerhusen; dear dad to Brittany Zerhusen and Heather (Matthew) Bright; brother to Bill Zerhusen, Theresa Kersting, Anita Zerhusen, Ed Zerhusen as well as cherished uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Mark will also be greatly missed but forever treasured by his sisters in law Theresa (George) Manning, Carla (Ricky) Kerish, and Toni (Chuck) Hennies as well as his work family at Mueller Roofing Distributors. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law/"bonus mom" Frieda Belew and his brother George Zerhusen, Jr.
Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy Mark leaves behind on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM until shortly before the time of the funeral ceremony at 12:00 PM; both at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051. Directly following the funeral, Mark will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery, 5358 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051.
