Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home on Mar. 25, 2025.
Marla Jo Michalec of Jacksonville, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2025, at Tyler Continuous Care Hospital. Marla lived a full life with love and laughter, leaving behind countless cherished memories for her family and friends to hold dear.
She was born on January 10, 1964, in San Bernardino, California, to Norman Lester West and Shirley Ridling West. She was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Dialville. She loved participating in church, fellowshipping with other church members, crafting and making cards for friends and family in her personalized craft room, growing fresh produce in her garden, and keeping her aim steady while shooting (we won't mention at who). Marla was known for her bountiful garden, beautiful handcrafted cards and decorations, and being a perfect shot at the range! One thing that brought Marla the most joy was being able to make the church bulletins for each Sunday's service. Marla poured her heart into making sure everything was perfect to honor her God.
Marla's heart was devoted to her family and God. She loved her children and grandchildren and her numerous nieces and nephews, calling their names out in prayer. Her greatest wish was for everyone to fall in love with the Lord as she had and for them to each have a strong relationship with God. Her faith stood on Acts 2:38; we must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Marla is survived by her loving husband, Eugene George Michalec, Jr., who was her best friend and partner over 43 years. They were married October 30, 1981, at the First Pentecostal Church in Bay City, Texas. Marla is also survived by her two sons: Wesley Michalec and his wife Tamara of West Columbia, Texas and David Michalec of Bay City, Texas; grandchildren: Hannah Sullivan and husband Codie and Parker Grayson; her two brothers: Donnie West and Steve West; and sister: Robin Clegg; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, great friends and countless healthcare professionals who cared for her in the last few years.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Kari Lynn and Sarell Lavon.
Services to celebrate her homegoing will be held at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the First Apostolic Church of Dialville 1408 CR 1608,
Rusk, Texas. Visitation will be held before the services on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A meal will be provided by the members of the First Apostolic Church of Dialville in the fellowship hall right after the services and all are welcomed.
