Marlene A Carlson

Marlene A. (Bruneski) Carlson, 81, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away on July 1, 2024. Born on November 29, 1942, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Albert and Emily Bruneski. Marlene graduated from Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wisconsin, and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
On July 15, 1967, she married Fritz J. Carlson, and together they shared 54 happy years. Marlene and Fritz settled in Illinois, where they raised their three children. After taking a break from teaching to focus on her family, Marlene returned to her passion for education. She taught at St. Peter Catholic School in Geneva, Illinois, leaving a lasting impact on her students. Even in retirement, former students kept in touch, a testament to her dedication.
Marlene's green thumb led her to become a Master Gardener during retirement. She reveled in tending to her garden, cultivating an array of fruits, vegetables, and wildflowers. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends at their cabin in Montello, Wisconsin.
Marlene is survived by her sons, John (Cynthia Campbell) Carlson and Andrew (Kari) Carlson; daughter, Kay (Matt) Woltman; grandchildren, Josie, Stevie, Wyatt, and Fritz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz, and her parents.
A visitation in her honor will be held at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 am, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church (312 Waterman Street, Sycamore, Illinois 60178). A private burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore, Illinois.
