Marlene D. Crespin, 66, a resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2024, surrounded by her daughter and friends.
Marlene was born September 15, 1957, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Maximillian and Lidia Aragon and later grew up in San Juan, New Mexico. She attended and graduated from Pecos High School in 1976. Years later as a non-traditional student she would attend New Mexico Highlands University where she would go on to earn her bachelor's degree in general education; as well as a certification in elementary education K-12, and a certified bilingual endorsement. Years later she would also become a certified librarian. Marlene also achieved a level two professional Pre K-12 specialty area license with endorsements in Social Studies, TESOL, Business Education, Bilingual Education, Reading and Library/Media.
Before earning her college degree, Marlene worked with the Forest Service for several years before working at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute. That is where she met the love of her life, Tony Crespin. They met on her first day and were soon engaged and married within a year. Her husband Tony was not only the love of her life but also her best friend and biggest supporter. He retired soon after the birth of their daughter, Celaniz, so that Marlene could go back to school to further her education. Marlene and Tony were married for 32 years before his unexpected passing in 2022. She was a loving wife and mother and her hobbies included photography, gardening, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, and spending time with her pets.
She is survived by her daughter, Celaniz J. Crespin, as well as her siblings, Manuel (Joanne) Aragon, Marcella (Henry) Rivera, Mabel (Ricardo) Baca, and Mary Aragon Pacheco, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her aunt, Martina Villas of Henderson, Nevada.
Marlene is preceded in death by her husband, Tony Crespin, as well as her parents, Maximillian, and Lidia Aragon, and her two infant sisters, Fatima, and Maxine Aragon.
Cremation has taken place. A rosary for Marlene will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 6 p.m. A funeral mass will follow on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
The urn bearer will be her daughter Celaniz Crespin.
