Marlene "Marty" Florence Hallauer, 91, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in
Dallas, OR. She was born in Akron, OH on November 23, 1933, to Harry Joseph Smith and Nellie Rebecca (Randall) Smith. Marlene graduated from Coventry High School, Class of 1951. On February 4, 1952, she married Donald "Don" Karl Hallauer, Jr. in Gulfport, MS. They made their home in Akron, OH. In 1992, they moved from Akron, OH to Salem, OR, and to
Dallas, OR in 2017.
Marlene worked for and retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber. Her joys were teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Lockwood United Methodist Church in Portage Lakes, OH and the First United Methodist Church in Salem, OR.
Marlene was honored to serve as a member of Kiwanis, because of the organization's focus on young children. The day women were permitted to join Kiwanis, she submitted a membership application. She never said no to community service projects. She enjoyed serving food at all fund-raising events, as well as serving coffee to travelers at I-5 rest stops. She also spent countless hours volunteering at the Marion Polk Food Bank. Her biggest joy was working with children. She felt immense joy representing Kiwanis at the Gilbert House, Richmond Elementary School, and Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Her all-time favorite Kiwanis activity was making Tie Blankets! Marlene served as club president and as Lt. Governor in Oregon.
She is survived by daughters Vicki (Joe) Flande of
Dallas, OR and Nancy (Bruce) Bennett of Rydal, PA, along with four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother James William Smith.
At her request, a private memorial service will be held for immediate family. She will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR, alongside her husband.
To celebrate her life, please raise your spoon to a bowl of ice cream! In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
