STOW - Marlene (Amos) Mottice, 82, passed away July 20, 2022. Although a native Akron resident, Marlene was a first-generation American with a large Swiss family. She will be remembered as a loving wife and a devoted math teacher who thrived on enjoying the successes of her students. Her passion was teaching. She often arrived early before class to be available to help students work through homework problems and study for quizzes and tests.
Brought together at Hudson Middle School, she married the man who hired her! Bob and Marlene were married for 27 years, sharing their love of teaching, entertaining, and family. She and Bob attended The Chapel in Akron for over 20 years.
During her time as a teacher, Marlene led the school Ski Club on many trips and accompanied hundreds of students to Washington, D.C. She also served as President of the Teacher's Union. Marlene had a zest for life during her teaching years and into retirement; traveling extensively, becoming a yoga instructor, leading a women's investment club, golfing, cycling for miles along the towpath, and delighting her family with her culinary skills. She treasured her lifelong friends and was grateful for their adventures together.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard Amos, and her granddaughter, Shannon Wilkes. She is survived by her husband, Bob Mottice; son, Chip (Kelly) Hallstein; daughter, Heidi Debro-Hallstein (Olivia); bonus daughters, Gail (Scott) Wilkes, Kelley (Chris) Jones, and Melissa (Terry) Murray; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and her beloved pup, Callie. Marlene will be missed by all those who love her.
Calling hours will be held Monday, August 1, from 4 to 6 PM, and a memorial service on Tuesday, August 2, at 10:00 AM, both at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hudson Community First, P.O. Box 515, Hudson, Ohio 44236.
