Marlene Roth Obituary

Marlene J. Roth, 86, of Warren, PA, formerly of Panama, peacefully passed away at the Warren Hospice House on Sunday, September 28, 2025, with her daughter by her side. She was born in Toledo, OH on August 19, 1939, to the late Mark and Martha Johnson Hoover.

Marlene was a graduate of Jamestown High School and went on to spend many years taking care of people including, "Aunt Emmie" and Aunt Catherine. She worked as a school aide at Panama Central Schools, and in younger years as head cook at Jamestown Public Schools.

A marvelous cook indeed, the flavors she created and the delicious chocolate chip cookies she baked will be missed by many. Truly, all Marlene wanted in life was to be a wife and mother, maintaining a happy home and family. She took exceptional care of her house in her early years, re-arranging frequently and incorporating endless photos of her beloved family; moreover, her care extended to her outdoor gardens and cats.

Marlene's heart was centered around God and family. Her memory will be treasured by her husband, John C. Roth, whom she married in 1984; her son, Scott (Le Ann) Holmquist; her daughter, Kimberly (William) Earle; her step-son, Kristofer (Norman) Roth; her grandchildren, Amanda Holmquist, Marly (Addie) Schnabel, Ty Holmquist, Tage Holmquist, Ryan (Alicia) Earle, Nikki (Chris) Earle, and Michael (Hayley) Earle; her great grandchildren, Wyatt, Myra, Chase, Eleanor, Caroline, Rhett, and another sweet baby on the way; as well as her beloved sister, Betty Hand.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Mark "Puppa" Hoover and Martha "Tummy" Johnson Hoover; her first husband, John Holmquist, Jr.; an angel child whom she lost following a miscarriage between her children; her brother-in-law, Martin Hand; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Hazel Roth; her favorite aunt, Thelma (Eric) Nelson; as well as lifelong friends, Georgeann (Bill) Wickham and Jackie Lundmark.

Unfortunately, Marlene fought a quiet but fierce battle felt by many in our world. Marlene struggled with depression. Her persistent mental health trials characterized her later years and took their toll on her health. If you are struggling with persistent sadness and hopelessness, Marlene's family urges you to know You Are Not Alone. Use your voice and seek assistance from family, friends, and organizations alike.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 11am-2pm Friday, October 3, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. The graveside service, led by Reverend Mel McGinnis, and burial will be at 2:30pm Friday at Busti Cemetery. The Celebration of Life service for Marlene will be at 1:00pm Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Kiantone Congregational Church, 646 Kiantone Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hospice House of Warren County, 1 Main Avenue, Warren, PA 16365.
