Marsha Levitt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Dunn’s Funeral Home on Dec. 17, 2025.
Marsha (Mykee) Ann Levitt died December 16, 2025, with her family by her side in Clive, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at Jewish Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 18, 2025.

She was born June 25, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois and adopted by Samuel and Mary (Bader) Cohen. Her father owned and operated Cohen's Food King grocery store in Des Moines' southside neighborhood. She lived in the Waterbury neighborhood and attended Roosevelt High School. After some time along the east coast and Europe, she found her way back to Des Moines where she eventually met her love, Jeff Levitt.

She was an exceptional hairdresser as well as a horse trainer and rider where she won the bronze medal in stadium jumping at the 1994 Iowa Games. She was also an accomplished author publishing two books. One of which, her life long project, was published while starting hospice care. She managed to express herself in various mediums of art including inks, colored pencils, acrylics, and oil paints. And when she wasn't lighting up the canvas, she could light up the room with her charm and wit. She enjoyed playing classical music on her violin.

Mrs. Levitt is survived by her husband Jeff Levitt; children, Ariella Jacobson (Noah Jacobson) and Rafi Levitt (Emily Levitt); her grandchildren, Hannah Finch, Simon Jacobson, Akiva Levitt, and Tzvi Levitt; her nephew, Steve Green and niece, Stacy Green. She was preceded in death by her sister, Hermine Green.

Donations in her honor can be made to the Chabad Lubavitch of Iowa at www.Jewishiowa.com/donate and the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines at https://www.jewishdesmoines.org/.

We want to thank the UnityPoint Hospice care team for their devotion to helping families in their time of need, but especially the incredible work Jamie Breckenridge, Lesli Schulte, and Holly Murken did for Mykee.
