Marshall Shain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by White-Sanders Funeral Home - Fisk on Feb. 20, 2026.
Marshall Gene Shain, Sr., 93, a lifelong resident of Fisk, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Loxley, Alabama, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Born on December 21, 1932, in Fisk, Marshall was the son of Marshall Spencer Shain and Regina (King) Shain. From an early age, he began working at the family-owned State Bank of Fisk at just twelve years old, learning lessons of diligence and responsibility that shaped a distinguished banking career spanning more than seventy years.
Marshall earned his business degree from the University of Missouri and completed his banking certification through the University of Wisconsin. He became a respected bank executive and retired at age 80 from First Midwest Bank in Puxico, Missouri. His leadership and integrity left a lasting mark on the community he faithfully served. A devoted Mason, Marshall was initiated into Poplar Bluff Lodge #209 in 1964, later serving as Worshipful Master in 1970 and as District Deputy Grand Master for the Grand Lodge of Missouri in 1978. He became a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in 1965, served as an Ambassador of Moolah Shrine, and was Past President of the Three Rivers Shrine Club. Brotherhood and service were pillars of his life.
On September 1, 1950, Marshall married the love of his life, Sue Ellen (Cunningham) Shain, who preceded him in death on June 5, 1998.
Marshall was preceded in death by his beloved wife; his parents; his sister, Doris V. (Shain) Kennedy; his brother, David S. Shain; his son, Marshall Gene Shain, Jr.; his daughter, Nancy S. Shain; his infant son, Dennis V. Shain; his infant daughter, Virginia C. Shain; and his grandson, Andrew G. Shain.
He is survived by his daughter, Jane E. Shain and her partner, Eric Howdeshell; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Turner Shain; his grandsons, John Dustin Hayes (Sabrina) and Matthew Shain Hayes (Melissa); his granddaughters, Kendra S. Mitchell (David Holbel), Lauren Elizabeth Shain, and Leslie Carol Shain-Phillips (Bradley); and his great-grandchildren, Trinity Shain (Eli Reinhardt), John & Charley Hazelwood, Lexis Hesselrode, Olivia & Jessalee Hayes, and Tony, Alex, Abbie, Mady, Vinnie, Lucy, Dominic, Bella, and Charlotte Brown. He also leaves behind many cherished family members and friends who were like family to him.
An avid hunter, Marshall especially loved duck hunting. He enjoyed reading, classical music, and evenings spent watching Masterpiece Mysteries. He was a joyful, fun-loving soul who embraced life with warmth and humor. Above all, he loved his family, friends, and community with all that he was.
Masonic services will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk, Missouri, with visitation immediately following. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Shain Memorial Cemetery in Fisk, Missouri.
Marshall's life was defined by service, integrity, and enduring love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community he cherished.
