Martha Dale Avella, age 71, of Hancock, MD, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in Hagerstown, MD.
Born Monday, January 4, 1954, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Clauda Schaidt Avella.
Martha was a graduate of Hancock High School. She was employed by Valley View Nursing Home and Homewood Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Hancock Assembly of God Church. In her free time, she loved calling her friends to check on them.
Martha is survived by one brother, Paul E. Avella and wife Mary of Hancock, MD; four sisters, Sondra Avella of Hancock, MD, Sharon Reed and husband Roger of Hancock, MD, Portia McKee and husband Frank of Hancock, MD, and L. Faith Merritt and husband Rick of Pocomoke City, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 12:00p.m. with two-hour prior visitation at the Hancock Assembly of God, 431 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Hancock, MD 21750. Pastor Don Preston will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, WV.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Martha’s name to Doey’s House 11370 Caring Pathway Ln, Hagerstown, MD 21742 and Hancock Assembly of God.
Arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750. Online condolences can be expressed to the family at www.grfuneralhome.net.
