Martha Jacobs Batey, 81, passed away on October 18, 2023. Born in Santa Barbra County, California, Martha was the daughter of David McGill Batey (Jacksonville, FL) and Lucy Gee Linn Batey Schmitz (Tarpon Springs, FL). Marti, as she was called by friends and co-workers, spent her childhood years in Detroit attending Cooke and Redford High Schools. She was very active in many school activities including the Husky’s cheerleading squad. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature, Science and the Arts. After teaching with the Detroit Public School System for 3 years, her adventurous side emerged with a move to Menlo Park, California in 1967 where she landed a job with IBM.  Marti was a pioneer for women in the computer marketing and sales field where her successful career with IBM spanned over 21 years.  Her high-level management and database solutions experience led to opportunities with Informix and Park City Group after IBM and an ultimate jump into forming her own company, Batey Group Consulting until her retirement to Ponte Vedra and Atlantic Beach, FL.  Her positive and outgoing energy will be missed by all!   She is survived by her brother David McGill Batey, Jr. of Estes Park, CO and sister Jean Batey Linsin of Johns Creek, GA and loving nieces & nephew; Piper & Sissel Batey and Chris, Erin & Sarah Linsin.   Donations in Martha’s name may be made to Betty Griffin Center that provides hope & healing for victims of domestic and sexual violence, offering a secure shelter, 24/7 rape crisis help line, and confidential counseling and support groups.   Web Address: https://bettygriffincenter.org/donate/ Mailing Address: 2450 Old Moultrie Rd, Suite 202, St. Augustine, FL 32086 Phone: 904-808-8544.
