Martha Mobley "Marti" Baumann

Martha Mobley Baumann "Marti" went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2023 at age 83. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee. She attended the University of Tennessee and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and graduated with her degree in Education. While at UT, she met and married her husband, Ronald (Ron). In 1964, when Ron joined the Army they both went to Ansbach, Germany. In 1968, she and Ron returned to Knoxville where he began his private dental practice and they raised their family. She sang in the choir at Woodlawn Christian Church. In 1980, she and Ron were called to Zambia, Africa, where they spread God's word for 15 years. In 1995, they moved to Colorado to do mission work for Turkish World Outreach. In 2005, they returned to Knoxville, joined Laurel Church of Christ, and made several short-term mission trips to China. They also had a small antique business in Knoxville.
Marti was an avid reader and enjoyed cross stitch, cryptic cross word puzzles, playing piano, playing cards, cooking, and loving on her Tonkinese cats, Teeza and Texxie. She taught school at Mount Olive Elementary School in Knoxville, TN, at the International School of Lusaka, Zambia, the American Embassy School of Lusaka, Zambia and at Cornerstone Christian school in Grand Junction, CO. She loved to lead women's Bible studies in Zambia and later on in China. Her Christian witness impacted people in Knoxville and around the world.
Marti is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ronald Sullivan Baumann and her parents, Dr. Joseph and Thirza Mobley. She is survived by her children; son, Jeffrey, and daughter-in-law, Robbie of Carrollton, Georgia; son, Russell, and daughter-in-law, Silvana of Chandler, Arizona; daughter, Susan, and son-in-law, Carl Mallette of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, Andrew, and daughter-in-law, Carey of Acworth, Georgia; grandchildren, Stephen, Katherine, Anna, Drew, and Alexander; sister, Thirza Sloan; sister, Mary Vinson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Arbor Terrace Memory Care and Smoky Mountain Hospice staff for their excellent and loving care.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 7 from 12:00-2:00 PM at Rose Funeral & Cremation Mann Heritage Chapel on Kingston Pike, with a graveside service to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
