It is with great sadness that we must tell you of the passing of our beloved "MeMa" on January 7, 2023. Martha Sue Bickmore Roche was born on February 27, 1948, in
Brigham City, Utah to Fawn Maxine Cummings and Vaughn Bickmore. She was 74 years young.
Mom was born into a family of nine children, six sisters and two brothers. Her sisters have always been a huge part of her life and brought years of joy, love, and laughter. Some of her happiest moments were spent with the "pink mafia" solving all the world's problems and finishing each other's sentences.
As a child, my mom grew up in
Orcutt, CA, a beautiful little town that allowed for an idyllic childhood filled with many friends and adventures. When Martha was 13 her family moved back to Brigham City.
After high school she returned to California to earn her Beautician License in 1968.
Martha met Dutch on a visit home where she was only supposed to stay for a week and never returned to California to stay. Martha married Eldon "Dutch" Roche on January 16, 1970, in
Elko, NV. Driving through 18" of snow to get there, just barely arriving in time to get married before they closed. Mom got credit for having one of the first stop signs put up in Corinne to slow her down on her way through Corinne.
Our mom was made of many talents that she freely shared with all of us. She could fix anything, from the washing machine to the truck, and even help with the tractors. If you needed something done, you called mom, she even helped remodel Ryan's house. From the plumbing to the sheetrock, she loved a project. One of mom's greatest talents was her ability to sew anything, she was always making us clothes for special occasions, recovering furniture, and tying quilts. These gifts she has shared with many of us. Her love for reading and old things has been passed down through the generations.
But most of all, Martha was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help, a kind word, the best advice, and a listening ear. She never gave up on us and set us straight in her loving way.
We will miss her quick wit and good nature, always looking for the best in others. It would be wrong to say that Martha lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Mom. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn't mean she lost her fight. Her indominable spirit kept her pushing through and is an example to all of us. Hero doesn't even begin to describe her. She was always there to catch us when we fell and to cheer when we stood tall. Those sparkling blue eyes, big smile, and never qive up attitude.
Martha leaves behind her loving husband, Dutch; daughter, Paula (Clint) Eliason, Paradise, UT; son, Ryan (MiRanda Smith) Roche, Corinne, UT; 8 grandchildren and 5.5 great-grandchildren. Brothers: Tim and Steve Bickmore. Sisters: Shamra Romer, LeAnn Anderson, Mary Udy, and Dr. Ronda Bickmore. Brother-in-law, Leon Roche; sister-in-law, Saundra Wells.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Vaughan and Maxine Bickmore; sisters, Marjorie Siebenthal and Donna Crossman; in-laws, Reva and Marion Roche; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Bickmore and Kathy Jensen.
We want to express our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all those who have taken care of and loved our mom, with a special thanks to Aegis Home Care and Hospice, Aunt Mary, LuAnn Brimberry, and our dear Dad for their outstanding care of our sweet mom.
