RICHMOND, Ind. – Martha Elaine Freer, age 89, of Richmond, Indiana, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Friends Fellowship Community.
Born July 13, 1936, in Mansfield, Ohio, to John Harry and Bertha Oleta Woodruff Remy, had lived in Richmond for the last 15 years. She was a graduate of Malone University, earning a bachelor's in religious education. Martha and her husband, Rev. George Shreve Freer, served together for over 50 years in churches in Cadiz, Ohio, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, St. Marys, Ohio, Maple Run in Marion, Indiana, Hortonville, Indiana, West Mansfield, Ohio, and then retired to Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, Indiana. She taught Sunday School, was Worship and Song Leader, and soloist in several churches and the yearly meetings: Evangelical Friends – Eastern Region, Indiana Yearly Meeting, and Western Yearly Meeting. Martha loved working in the garden and flowers, she had a flower bed and enjoyed watching and maintaining numerous bird feeders at Friends Fellowship Community.
Survivors include her sons, Scott (Jody) Freer, Mark (Robin) Freer, Keith (Shawnda) Freer, and Kevin (Nicki) Freer; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; church friends and family; and friends and neighbors at Friends Fellowship Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Rev. George Freer; parents; and a granddaughter, Meghan.
A memorial service for Martha Freer will be from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Friends Fellowship in the Community Room. Doan & Mills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in York Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Friends Fellowship Community Endowment Fund, 2030 Chester Boulevard, Richmond, IN 47374 or Malone University, 2600 Cleveland Ave NW, Canton, OH 44709.
