Martha D. Gill

The passing of Martha D. Gill is being shared by her family.

Martha, born on April 30, 1945, in Lewisburg, was the daughter of Lemuel L. and Pauline E. (Sholley) Dressler. She was the wife of Samuel (Sam) L. Gill, with whom she shared 45 loving years of marriage. They were married by their dear friend, Pastor Edward N. Reiter, on August 11, 1979, at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Milton. Martha was a graduate of Mifflinburg Joint High School.

Martha and Sam enjoyed sharing time together, square dancing with friends, preparing food for tailgating and attending Penn State University football games, and traveling to the Carolina beaches. While able, they attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lewisburg. In addition to caring for her family and working full-time at the Sholley Insurance Agency, as a Customer Service Representative, Martha loved being outdoors tending to her flowers (she had a green thumb!), singing, playing the piano, knitting, and reading her Bible and daily devotions. She also took great pride in keeping a clean and tidy home.

In addition to her loving husband, Sam, Martha is survived by two daughters, Lisa R. Rishel (Roger) and Jessica L. Zeller, both of Lewisburg. As Martha’s daughters, we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to help care for our beautiful mother these past many years and be with her as she left her earthly home on January 29, 2025. We loved our mom and will miss her dearly.

Martha was a grandmother to 3 granddaughters and their husbands: Bethany and Gregory Hollenbach, Lewisburg; Kasey and Tyler Davis, Middleburg; and Erin and Austin Davis, New Berlin. After years of being a mother and grandmother to 2 daughters and 3 granddaughters, Martha entered the world of great-grandmotherhood to 5 boys! They are Evan and Ian Hollenbach, Reid and Lincoln Davis, and Oliver Davis. Called lovingly, “Nana Banana,” the boys were the light of her life with their hugs, giggles and visits.

Martha was also blessed with four siblings and several nieces and nephews. Her siblings include sister and best friend, Janet Dressler, Harrisburg; brother Richard (Marian) Dressler, Bangor, Maine; and brother Robert (Robin) Dressler, Melbourne, Florida. Her youngest brother, William Dressler, and his wife, Debra, Mifflinburg, preceded her in death, as did her beloved nephew, Matthew Graham, of Mt. Rainier, Maryland.

Martha fought a valiant fight against Parkinson’s disease for many years. She was blessed to be cared for by many wonderful angels from Almond Tree Senior Solutions. Heartfelt gratitude to the loving hands and hearts of those who shared their time and gifts with her. A special thank you to Barbara Abers, caregiver and “adopted sister” to Martha.

In March 2024, Martha and Sam moved to Rolling Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center due to the progression of her disease. We cannot say enough about the fabulous team at Rolling Hills. Your dedication to the care of Martha and Sam goes above and beyond and we are so grateful for each of you. You treated Martha with love and compassion and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Family and friends, please join us for a Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, February 7th, at Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 16 Walnut Street, Mifflinburg. Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM, officiated by family member and friend, Robert Kribbs. A private burial at the Paxtonville Cemetery will take place later in the day after the immediate family shares a meal to honor and remember Martha.
