West Brookfield: Martha E. (Hobbs) Toomey Johnson,82, of West Brookfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 6th at UMASS Memorial Hospital, Worcester after a brief illness. She was the wife of Peter H. Johnson, who died in 2024. She leaves her sons; Timothy Toomey and his wife Bonnie of Brookfield and Matthew Toomey and his wife Michele of E.Brookfield, her daughter; Kathryn Toomey Daley and her partner Keith Audette of E.Brookfield, her brother; John Hobbs of Sandford, ME, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, her stepchildren; Peter, Stephen, James, Mark Johnson and Laura Phipps. She is predeceased by her first husband; James N. Toomey in 2005 and her brother Rick Hobbs. 

Martha was a home health aide for several area agencies prior to her retirement. Previously she was a waitress for 25 years at the Public House in Sturbridge. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Richard and Anna (Haverly) Hobbs and later graduated from David Prouty High School in 1961. The family would like to acknowledge the nurses and staff at UMASS Memorial for their compassionate care of Martha. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, 1/15 in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. A calling hour will precede the service from 9-10 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Spencer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Here Today Adopted Tomorrow Animal Sanctuary, 180 Sturbridge Rd., Brimfield, MA 01010.
