Born November 2, 1944, in Hico, Louisiana to the late James Travis and Dor0thy Ann Pixley Ferguson, she was a graduate of Hico High School, Southern Baptist College, and Ouachita Baptist University.
Sue was a devoted pastor’s wife. She served beside her husband in 7 churches over 49 years of pastoral work, as well as teaching hundreds of students in her 28 years as a teacher. Sue loved to teach her students and always encouraged them that they could achieve their dreams.
Sue loved to travel with her husband, Don, his sister Margie and her husband Bill. They also loved fishing together and finding great bargains at yard sales. Many late nights were spent playing Rook with her other sister-in-law Melba Gibson and her husband Don Gibson. She loved being “Mama Sue” to Izzy and a multitude of her children’s friends, as well as Nana to her two grandsons Drew and Logan.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marilyn Burnham, brothers, Jim Ferguson and Joe Ferguson, her sister-in-law and traveling buddy Margie Anders, sister-in-law Melba Gibson and brother-in-law Don Gibson.
Sue is survived by her husband of 60 years, Don; son Robert McCormick; daughter Melissa Hudson and husband Andy; bonus son Ismael “Izzy” Garcia; sister Kathy Barnette; grandsons Drew Hudson and Logan McCormick; brother-in-law Bill Anders, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other family.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs for the care that they provided in Sue’s final days, with a special thanks to the staff of 4 West, especially John who showed a great compassion not only for Sue, but for our family as well.
