Martha Louise (Hamann) Moser, 87, passed away peacefully in Rosemount, MN, with grace and dignity on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
She was born in Rock Rapids, IA, to Louie and Amanda Hamann. Martha grew up on the family farm north of Alvord, IA, attended country school through the eighth grade, and graduated from Alvord High School. She later graduated from Stewart’s School of Cosmetology and was employed by Carmella’s in the Cataract Hotel, Sioux Falls, SD.
Martha married Terry Moser in June 1959 in Inwood, IA. They made their home in Lester, IA, before moving to Fort Devens, MA, during Terry’s Army service in the Vietnam Era. Their son Todd and daughter Susan were born during that time, and their daughter Carolyn was born after they returned to Lester.
Martha and Terry built a new home in Lester, where she managed an in-home hairstyling business. After moving to Rock Rapids, she remodeled their home, and in 1974 they built another new home in Ashton, IA. Martha enjoyed painting, wood finishing, and often joined hands-on construction with the carpenters.
She loved attending her children’s school activities and tending to her flower gardens. She became a Certified Master Gardener through the Iowa State College program, which led to charitable garden tours of the Moser yard, featuring her beautiful flower beds and large collection of daylily cultivars. Having tea with neighbors was a weekly pleasure. She and Terry also enjoyed time at Lake Okoboji and, in retirement, cherished extended visits with family in Texas, California, and Minnesota.
Martha was an active member of the Sibley United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for eight years. Her other interests included photography, family genealogy, and scrapbooking—but above all, she loved caring for her family. Her more than twenty years with the Osceola Book Discussion Group reflected her lifelong love of reading. She kept a list of every title she read dating back to the 1990s.
In the spring of 2021, Martha and Terry moved to Rosemount, MN, to be closer to family.
Martha is survived by her husband, Terry; son Todd Moser (Tammy); daughters Susan Wenker (Jeff) and Carolyn Moser (William Smith); sisters Velma (Gary) Rowles and Angela (Bill) Zimmerman; sister-in-law Cindy McCarty (Dick); brother-in-law Paul (Rebecca) Moser; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Harry (Bud) and Frances Moser; brother-in-law Dick McCarty; and nephew Dan Zimmerman.
The family requests no gifts. A private ceremony is planned.
