Martha Virginia (Miela) Werr, age 95, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Monroe City Manor Care Center in Monroe City, MO.
She is survived by her loving husband Frederick Werr of Shelbyville, MO. They were married on November 9, 1990, and would have celebrated 33 years together. She absolutely loved traveling in the US and around the world. She enjoyed many adventures across several continents and sailed on several cruises. She would often write about their adventures in the local paper so that everyone could share in their travels. When she wasn't traveling, she was an avid reader and had a great passion for mystery novels.
She enjoyed being involved in the community. She was in the GFWC (General Federation of Women's Club) in Shelbyville, MO. She enjoyed working with her husband Fred in preparation of the Old Settlers Festival. One year, especially when they were Grand Marshall's of the parade. She also supported "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" as this was an organization that she felt strongly about. Helping the community within the community.
Virginia was born on July 13, 1928 in Detroit to the parents of Bessie & Earl V. Mason. They preceded her in death along with her two siblings, Thelma Nark of Sun City, AZ and Earl V. Mason, Jr. of Livonia, MI.
Virginia was raised in Hazel Park, MI where she overcame polio as a child. Through her youth and through graduation she played in many school sports such as baseball & basketball. As an adult her career began as an operator for Michigan Bell Telephone. She was married to Vincent Miela for 40 years until his passing in 1989. They had 6 children and she enjoyed being involved in their school activities to include Piano player for Sunday School, Teacher's Aid, Room mom, Gym teacher, Girl Scout leader, and seamstress. She also spent several seasons with her children working her parents farm in Missouri. She is survived by their 6 children, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Surviving Children: Deborah Miela (Gloria Gold) of Troy, MI, Valerie (Greg) Fleck of Lapeer, MI, Denise (Dennis) Ritthaler of Warren, MI, Donna Miela (Sue Treanor) of Royal Oak, MI, Pamela (Dan) Duwe of Elgin, IL, and Paul (Sherry) Miela of Lake Orion, MI.
Surviving Grandchildren: Laura Fleck, Jason Fleck, Renae (Sean) Jones, Kelly (Ryan) Malloy, Kristy (Andy) Hicks, Sarah Duwe (Tanner Vinton), Ashley Duwe, Jonathan Miela, and Nicole (Aaron) Giroux.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Zion Lutheran Church (32405 Business Highway 36 East), in Macon, MO, followed by the burial in Mt. Hope Lutheran Cemetery west of Shelbyville, MO. A visitation will precede the service starting at 10 am at the church. Family suggests memorials be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
