Martha Ann Wertz

Martha Ann (Lindquist) Wertz, age 93, of North Canton went home to be with the Lord Jesus, her Savior, on Friday, May 30, 2025. She and her twin brother, George, (the first of three sets of twins) were born on September 7, 1931 in Kane, PA to the late Arthur and Martha (Conklin) Lindquist. Martha earned a bachelor's degree in Education from Malone College and a master's degree in Sociology from The University of Akron. She served as registrar at Malone University, the Administrative Assistant for Sports Ministries at First Friends Church and the Association of Church Sports and Recreation Ministries.
Martha was a member of First Friends Church for over 60 years, American Association of University Women and Red Hat Society. She was active throughout her life playing in golf leagues until last summer and bowling leagues this past winter. She was an avid gardener of vegetables, fruits and flowers. Martha could always be found enjoying numerous church activities, photography, family reunions, crafting and quilting and an avid prayer warrior.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Benton "Ben" Wertz (in 2021); five brothers, Richard, George, James, LaVerne, and Jack Lindquist; two sisters, Marie Lindquist and Jane Luciano; sister-in-law, Anne Lindquist; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Wertz.
She is survived by her sister, Jill (Tom) Hamrick; four step-sons, David, Doug, John (Lori) and James Wertz; grandchildren, Ashlee (Garrett) Kingsley, Kaitlyn, Megan, Emily, Elizabeth, Joshua and David Wertz; sisters-in-law, Patty Lindquist and Mitz Lindquist; as well as many nieces, nephews and additional relatives.
Calling hours will be held Monday, August 18, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Friends Church with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM with Pastor Nathanael Fawcett officiating. Final interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a future date.
