Rozanne Snoberger

I learned just today that my 6th and 8th grade teacher, loved by so many, Martin Barlau, entered heaven in May of this year. But he was more than that to me. We connected later in life based on our background as he discovered our son, Adam Snoberger, now an LCMS pastor in Grand Island, NE. That was some years ago and we have communicated since. He was not only my teacher as a young child, he became my spiritual guide as an older adult. He buoyed me up as I take care of my husband with cancer. He and Jean Marie stopped many times in Lincoln and we met for a meal, nostalgia, and Christian fellowship. Oh how we loved him. And I thank God for him as he helped many across the line into eternity.
I wondered why I had not heard from him recently. I thought he was just taking extra time to visit his dear elk herds in the hills of CO. But now I know.
I cherish what he has meant to me and to my family. I honor and love his God. And one day, we will resume our relationship in heaven.
God bless his dear family.
Following is the last email he sent to me on May 1. It is Martin Barlau all the way in a few words:
"May our loving heavenly Father continue his blessings to you and Curt.
I'm looking forward to when I can enjoy time with Jean Marie again.
But in the meantime, I'm trying to help others enjoy life with God, and with any other partners they have around.
Golly, eternity is going to be so wonderful."
I deeply grieve his passing, but rejoice in his reward with our Lord.

I knew Martin as a loyal and consistent member of the board for the Silver Lake Homeowners Association. He was secretary for the HOA board during some of the time that I was on the board and his reports were always timely, clear and accurate. We loved his comments when we deviated from correct parliamentary procedure during our meetings. We truly missed him when his term ended on the board. He physically helped clear out a section of the lake shore in his 80s, always willing to bring support and a helping hand to do work that needed to be done. On a personal note, he bought one of my books, "Discovering Nepal: Fulfillment of a Lifelong Dream" and then discussed it with me and published a review about it. Kind, helpful and generous, Marty will be missed by all of us. Sandra Zink
