Martin Charles Dombrowski, 88, formerly of
Forest Hills, PA and
Upper St. Clair, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Friendship Village of South Hills on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. He was born on February 7, 1937, in
Pittsburgh, PA. He was the eldest son of Martin Boleslaw Dombrowski and wife Antoinette A. (Karazinski).
Martin married Nancy (Marx) in September 1963 and shared travel, music and family traditions together for 62 years. Proudly they raised three children, Karen (James J. Boston), Martin David (Lynn Pagendarm), and Stephen (Mary Alice Sieggreen).
His greatest joys are his seven grandchildren and extended family: Maura Boston (Jay Carroll), James M.,Boston, Amber Dombrowski (fiance Brent Zutaut), Martin Craig Dombrowski (Sophia Brown), John Dombrowski, Allison Dombrowski, and Marilyn Dombrowski.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Anthony J. Dombrowski and sister-in-laws Mary Jo Dombrowski and Mary Ester Dombrowski. Surviving, in addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren is his youngest brother, Edward Dombrowski.
Martin graduated from Pittsburgh Central Catholic high school (Class of 1955) and was a lifelong Viking supporter. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in South Korea. His skills in radio repair and passion for music led him to build a radio station where each evening he was a DJ playing the latest jazz tunes featuring his favorite artists. He also dedicated an hour of easy listening to his girl Nancy, back home.
After Martin was honorably discharged from the Army as a SP4, he returned home and enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh earning a degree in mechanical engineering. His professional career spanned over four decades with Davy-Dravo and Kvaener engineering firms. He was never without his multi-colored pens to diagram solutions to any problem. He was the original "MacGyver" and could fix or rebuild almost anything mechanical or electrical. These skills were often used helping family and friends.
Martin cherished his Catholic faith, Polish heritage, and volunteering in the community. He was a lifelong parishioner at St. Maurice Catholic Church,
Forest Hills, PA. He had fun supporting the church fundraiser carnival each year. One of his favorite Polish traditions was breaking Oplatki and giving the Polish blessing at the Christmas Eve family dinner (Wigilia). Martin volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 98. While never a Boy Scout himself, he encouraged his sons to participate in scouting and was proud of the fact that his two sons and his three grandsons earned the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition, he volunteered at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and was graciously honored for his 20 years of service as Treasurer. He also coordinated the collection and distribution of food for those in need across the Pittsburgh region.
Throughout his life, Martin enjoyed gardening, fishing, daily crossword and sudoku puzzles, model railroading, and sharing a great story or telling a good joke. He was an avid photographer and winner of several photography awards.
Martin was a diehard fan of the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. His historical knowledge of the city of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania was unparalleled. He could easily connect world famous people and events to their Pittsburgh roots.
Martin's love, wisdom, and friendship will always be remembered.
