Martin Hunter "Marty" Giere

Martin "Marty" Giere, age 78, of Arden Hills, passed away February 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 24, 1944 to Irving & Laura (Foldoe) Giere in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved daughter Bridget Elaine Giere. Marty is survived by loving wife Marilee (Schambureck); daughter Shannon, son Kyle (Alex), and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Marty worked as an accountant for 25 years for the State of Minnesota. He enjoyed reading the paper, staying current with local & world news. A full blooded Norwegian, Marty was a true "meat & potatoes" kind of guy. He was good at trivia and enjoyed watching sports, mostly football and golf. He had a great sense of humor and was always up for a good joke. An outdoorsman at heart, Marty loved fishing and enjoyed being by the water. He loved sweets, anything apple or lemon flavored, and regularly went to the Braham Pie Days festival with Marilee. Marty was always interested in boats, motors, cars, and going for drives up north. He adored going to car shows and concerts with Marilee and listening to all kinds of music. Marty also really knew how to shop.
Above all, Marty enjoyed being a dad and watching his three kids grow. He was devastated when his youngest daughter, Bridget, suddenly passed away in 2016 at the age of 16. He struggled carrying that grief with him for the rest of his life.
Visitation on Wednesday, March 1 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home in Shoreview. Additional Visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2 with Memorial Service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Incarnation Lutheran Church in Shoreview. In lieu of flowers, donations to Feed My Starving Children, Fishing for Life, or Children's Hospital Association are preferred.
