Martin "Marty" Stuart Messex, 67, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 29, 2024 at his home in Louisville, KY. Marty was the third child and second son of Ken and Alta Messex, born on September 27, 1956.
He married at 19 and was the father of two daughters, Alison and Katie Messex. They remember him as a great dad and one of the kindest souls they have ever known.
He worked at Subway (not the sandwich shop) at their two locations selling records, clothing and accessories. He then worked at Phoenix Records as a record buyer. He worked at UPS, the Army and Air Force Exchange in the Art Department, The Kentucky Derby Museum and was most recently employed at the United States Postal Service.
As everyone he met knows, he was extremely into music and enjoyed attending concerts locally and in the surrounding areas.
As busy as he was with work, friends and helping his sister Linda, the rest of his time was spent reading about, listening to, talking with friends around the world about and buying music.
He had tons of friends and could rarely go anywhere without running into someone he knew. He was always going to meet friends for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
He is survived by his two daughters Alison and Katie Messex, his sister Linda Weber, and his former wife Cathy Messex. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Alta Messex, and his brother Danne Messex.
One of the biggest sorrows of his life was his brother Danne's death, and through their grief, many of Danne's friends became his friends. As is fitting, he will be resting next to his brother.
Rest in peace, dad, brother, cousin, friend. Until we meet again.
Visitation and service will be at Ratterman and Sons (3800 Bardstown Rd.) on Friday, July 5 from 2-8 p.m. with funeral services on Saturday, July 6 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery at 12 p.m.

Everything Teresa said....I got to know Marty going to see Louisville musicians. He was such a friendly guy. I don't know that I had seen him since covid but really enjoyed all of his facebook sharing. He seemed to experience a lot of music history and shared it so well. I'm sure he is in the company of his beloved brother Dan. Rest in peace Marty and condolences to his family.

I'm in a band named Dawson Hill, and we used to play at Buckhead's every Tuesday. Marty and some of his friends would come out to Buckhead's most Tuesdays, so I got to know him then. He appreciated the music and was so nice to talk to and always so pleasant. Then Covid hit, Buckhead's closed and I didn't see much of Marty after that, but we were friends on Facebook and were able to keep in touch that way. He had the best Facebook posts about his love for his family, music, Louisville history, and much more. He will truly be missed. My sincere condolences to the family. Sincerely, Teresa Tuck
