After a brief illness, Martin Louis Roberts went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 9, 2024. He was 91 years old. Martin was born on March 11, 1933 in Houston, Texas to Martin Roberts and Julia (Herman) Roberts who preceded him in death. Martin is survived by his sweet wife of 65 years Elizabeth (Elmore) Roberts, their two sons Michael (Debra) Roberts and Don (Kari) Roberts, grandson Logan Roberts, Martin's two younger brothers Vernon (Annette) Roberts and Jerry (Peggy) Roberts, and many nieces and nephews.
Martin was a graduate of John H. Reagan High School. From 1953 to 1954 Martin worked as a pipe-fitter helper for Southern Pacific Railroad. Martin proudly served his country in the US Army from 1954-1956. He trained at The Chemical School at Fort McClennan, Alabama to serve as a Chemical Supply Specialist. He was deployed to Korea where he served as an MP. During his deployment, he and Elizabeth had become pen pals, a connection set up by their mothers. Martin was honorably discharged and earned a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Martin was very proud of his service and was honored to wear his Korean Veteran cap.
Martin returned to Houston and began his career at Southwestern Bell where he worked for 38 years. Through those years, camping, a life-long love for Martin and his family, allowed them to see much of the country. They loved the recreational vehicle lifestyle and traveled across the US with friends in two camping clubs as well as family. Martin was a part of the Houston Lapidary Society where he learned and refined his skill at cutting, polishing, and faceting stones. At one time, Martin owned two Ford Model A's. A special interest he had was collecting and building knives. He loved to do woodworking and building stained glass pieces in his workshop. Martin enjoyed the thrill of the hunt in collecting coins, and he and Elizabeth assembled jigsaw puzzles on a table Martin built especially for that. If Martin was not working on a project in the shop, you could find him working on their Magnolia property. In 2022 Martin and Elizabeth and their cat Patches moved into a senior living community in Spring, Texas.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Klein Funeral Home and Memorial Park located at 14711 FM 1488, Magnolia, Texas 77355. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Internment will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that a donation to your preferred charity be made in honor of Martin.

Martin was a kind hearted man who never talked bad about anyone. I know he will be sorely missed, though I can imagine my Dad greeting him in heaven with open arms and a big smile.
Sending love and hugs,
Cindy C.
