Marton Toth, 88, of Tewksbury, MA, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on September 1, 1936 to Marton Toth and Maria (Anscin) Toth in Kétsoprony, Hungary, a place he would always carry in his heart. He was the oldest of 9 children. In 1956, at the age of 20, Marton joined the freedom fighters during the Hungarian Revolution, an experience that shaped his life in profound ways. He made the courageous decision to escape his homeland and eventually arrived in the United States in 1957. Though he built a full life in his new country, Hungary and his memories there never left him. He would often dream of his past and the land he loved.
Marton learned English quickly and embraced his new life in America. In 1959, he met (Frances) Lee Conway, who would become his beloved wife of 59 years. Together, they raised five children, and Marton took great pride in being a father. He loved supporting his family in every way he could and found deep joy in seeing his children grow. His patience, steadiness, and quiet strength left a lasting impact on his family.
From 1960 to 1962, Marton served on active duty in the United States Army, a proud chapter of his life that reflected both his loyalty to his adopted country and his enduring sense of duty.
A gifted soccer player, Marton's passion for the sport spanned decades. He played in numerous leagues across the region and continued playing competitively into his 70s - a testament to his energy, discipline, and love for the game.
Professionally, Marton worked as a sheet metal mechanic, applying his skill and craftsmanship at Sanders Company, Wang Laboratories, and Welfab Company over the years.
Marton is survived by his son David J Toth, his wife Ellen and their daughters, Haley and Maiya of Merrimack, NH; his son Andrew M Toth of Dunstable, MA; his daughter Caron M (Toth) Mazzaferro, her husband Matt and their children Julia, Nick, Jason, and Amanda of Leominster, MA; and his daughter Susan L Toth, her husband R. Todd Shaffer and their son Rowan of Dover, NH; and his daughter-in-law Teri Norton and her daughter Sarah of Lowell, MA. Marton was preceded in death by his wife F. Lee (Conway) Toth; his son M. Stephen Toth; and his son Michael A Toth.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Saint William's Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, in Tewksbury, followed by a burial ceremony and interment of his ashes at Saint Mary Cemetery. 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
Marton found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether playing a good game of cribbage, tending to his garden, or making hearty soups from the vegetables he grew himself. He will be remembered for his patience and kindness, his easy-going nature, and the calming presence that made him such a joy to be around.
