With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of our dear mother and our dad's love of 49 years, Marty Gail (Owens) Carter, age 65, of Corbin, KY. She went to be with Jesus on Sunday, May 25, 2025, surrounded by her family. Her love was as steady as the mountains she called home.
She was born October 7, 1959, to the late Charlie and Rosie (Collins) Owens, in Corbin, Kentucky. Marty was a woman of quiet strength, laughter, and a generous heart. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life---tending to her flowers, cooking for her family, and she loved to spend her weekends at yard sales.
Marty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. To know her was to feel loved deeply and without condition. She loved with her whole heart, and that love continues to echo through her children, grandchildren, and all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Marty leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Berry Carter, two daughters, Shawna Phillips (Kevin) and Leigh-Anne Bennett (Shawn), and 4 grandchildren, Gavin, Lexi, Abby, and Chloe, one sister, Judy Black, 3 brothers, Henry, Leland and Kenneth Owens, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She joins her parents, Charlie and Rosie Owens, and her siblings Jorene, Ed, Tommy, Faye, Calvin, Margaret, and Nancy in rest, who went before her.
We will miss her every day, but we find comfort in the countless ways she made our lives better. Her spirit will live on in our gardens, our kitchens, and in our memories. She was our heart and our home. We will carry her love forward every day.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Her funeral service will begin at 10 am on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the funeral home with Bro. Steve Sutton officiating.
Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, KY, with Kevin Phillips, Shawn Bennett, Gavin Phillips, Chloe Phillips, Josh Turner, Johnny Westerfield, and Donald Burchette serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Abby Bennett and Lexi Bennett.
