Marty Gillespie, 63, of Huntsville; passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale. He was born Friday, June 24, 1960, in Decatur, Alabama; to Gilbert Clayton and Vera Josephine Glenn Gillespie.
Marty proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he served as a member the Red Horse 506 Combat Engineers. Marty married Janete Nascimento. In his civilian life, Marty dedicated himself to the noble profession of nursing, offering care and comfort to those in need. A devout member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Marty found solace and community in his faith, cherishing the fellowship of his church family.
Marty's interests spanned across diverse realms. As a 32nd degree Mason, he embraced principles of fraternity and enlightenment, seeking to better himself and his surroundings. Intrigued by the mysteries of the cosmos, Marty lent his expertise to the Seti Institute, passionately delving into the exploration of extraterrestrial intelligence.
Marty's character shone brightly through his acts of kindness and generosity, touching the lives of those around him with his selfless nature and warm demeanor. His Scottish heritage held a special place in his heart, manifested through his skillful renditions of the bagpipes and the banjo, instruments through which he celebrated his ancestry with pride and joy.
Marty was preceded in death by his wife, Janete Gillespie, and his parents, Gilbert and Vera Gillespie. He is survived by his twin brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Darlene Gillespie, of Huntsville.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Brashears Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11:30 AM, Friday, March 1, 2024, at Fayetteville National Cemetery with Rodney Weyer officiating.
