Marty Knapp

Creve Coeur- It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our brother Marty Knapp, who passed away at his home in Creve Coeur on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
Marty was born May 10, 1960, the youngest child of James and Collette (Cub) Knapp. He grew up in Peoria, Illinois where he attended St. Bernard Grade School and graduated from Spalding Institute, class of 1978. Marty worked for many years as a warehouseman at Super Liquors, Baumgarten Distribution Company and Brewers Distributors. He last worked alongside his best friend, Billy Joyce, as part of the Lawn Crew for PHD Services October 2014 until he retired in July 2021.
Marty had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was always eager to be helpful to family and friends. His deep appreciation for music brought much joy to his life, and his knowledge and memory of professional musicians, bands, events and concerts were remarkable. Marty Loved comedy and was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Marty is survived by two sisters: Denise (Roger) Kelch of West Peoria and Rita Knapp of Pekin; one brother, Rick (Kathy) Knapp of Broken Arrow, OK; and one niece, Julie Chisholm of West Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Knapp.
Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Wright & Salmon Mortuary on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Preferred memorials in Marty's memory may be made to Easterseals of Central Illinois or the Illinois Central Blues Club.
