Marva E. Goins was born Marva Womack on December 21, 1946 to Nettie Spikes and Henry Hayes Womack in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She had two siblings, a fraternal twin, Melba Howard and Henry Hayes Jr. She grew up in a home full of love and with other family members.
Marva attended Battin High School and went on to graduate from Newark State College with a degree in Education. After obtaining her degree, Marva married Lorenzo "Larry" Goins in August of 1972. She went on to teach elementary education - educating students at Morton St. and Quitman St. schools. After her husband's passing, Marva went on to earn a master's degree in education and obtained enough credits for a PhD.
Marva served the Newark school system for nearly four decades before retiring. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling the world, being active in social clubs, shopping, and spending time with friends and family.
She leaves behind her son, Kalon Goins; her brother, Henry Hayes Womack Jr., her chosen nieces, Alisha Ann Marie Bussey and Cherylaya Hughes; her chosen nephew, Zaaire Bussey and a host of cousins. She has reunited with her husband, mother, father, and sister in heaven.
