Marva Marble Lawrence passed away on March 12 at home, surrounded by family. Marva was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marva was born in Brigham City, Utah and lived there with her family until she graduated from Box Elder High School in 1965. After high school, Marva attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where she majored in Psychology. She met the love of her life and future husband, Steven Dean Lawrence, at church. They married in 1968 in the Salt Lake City temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Marva finished her degree shortly after the wedding, and they began their family. After they both graduated, they spent a few years moving around, settling in the San Francisco Bay Area where she lived in Novato, Pleasant Hill, Concord, and finally in Martinez for more than 44 years.
Life in Martinez revolved around her husband, six kids, and her church volunteer responsibilities. She also wrote music, volunteered on the board for the East Bay Park District, and in 1992 got her Master's Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in MFCC at CSU Hayward. She was a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. After her husband's death in 1997, she worked with counseling clients at various locations, ending at LDS Social Services. In retirement she focused on church volunteer work, writing and playing music, family history, studying the French language, and enjoying her children, grandchildren, and cats.
Marva is survived by her six loving children: Deb Hardy (Aaron) of Bellevue WA; David Lawrence (Shauna) of Cedar Hills UT; Christine McClellan (Jeff) of Orem UT; Jen Harrington (Chad) of Lindon UT; Suzanne Alexander (Kris) of Las Vegas, NV and Rob Lawrence (Emmalee) of Spanish Fork UT, as well as 18 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Noell Marble and sister Rose Baird.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at the Pleasant Hill Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Saturday March 16. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am, and the funeral services will begin at 11:00 am. Marva will be interred next to her husband in Memory Gardens in Concord, CA.
