Marvin Lyle Cumberworth

Marvin Lyle Cumberworth, age 87, of Alma, formerly of Perrinton, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Prestige Centre in Mt. Pleasant. He was born September 8, 1937, in Newark Township, Gratiot County, Michigan, the son of Dale L. and Ruby L. (Helms) Cumberworth. He married Patricia Pakes on May 3, 1958, in Stanton, Michigan. Together they enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, square- and round-dancing, along with calling Bingo at the Senior Activity Building. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Marvin farmed for many years and worked as a Corrections Officer at Ionia MTU and the Saginaw Regional Facility. He loved being outdoors, especially golfing and always looked forward to meeting up with his fellow golfers at the North Star Golf Course. He enjoyed his time at the Ithaca Senior Activity Building, sharing stories and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia of Alma; two children, Steven Cumberworth of Alma, Christa (Dave) Merritt of Edmore; grandchildren, Jared and Heather Cumberworth both of Croswell, Kanon, Kooper, and Kase Jerome all of Edmore; his brothers, Max (Judy) Cumberworth of Ithaca, Gary (Carol) Cumberworth of Perrinton; sister-in-law, Delores Pakes of Inverness, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Ruby Cumberworth; a sister, Shirley Casler; and a nephew, Cory Cumberworth; mother-in-law, Mary Chapman; brothers-in-law, Lamont Pakes and Bob Brown; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jean Brown.
A Celebration of Marvin's Life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Senior Activity Building, 2011 North Street, Ithaca, MI 48847. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Dodge Funeral Home, Middleton.
