Mary Daugherty Abrams

Mary Daugherty Abrams of Meriden passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with glioblastoma. She is survived by her husband Jim Abrams of Meriden, her daughter Madeline Thomas (John) of Wakefield, Massachusetts, her son Nicholas Abrams (Ana Daniela Acosta) of Bradenton, Florida and her grandchildren Rose Thomas, Marley Thomas, Henry Abrams, and Marcelo Abrams, each of whom she loved fiercely. She is also survived by her brothers Kenneth M. Daugherty, Thomas Daugherty, and her brother-in-law David Allgaier. She was predeceased by her parents Kenneth H. Daugherty and Mary M. Daugherty, and her sister Kathleen Allgaier.
Mary was born in Akron, Ohio in 1958. She was a graduate of Maloney High School in Meriden and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern Connecticut State University. She spent most of her career in the special education field, working in the West Hartford and Glastonbury public school systems. She later transitioned into educational administration, retiring as an Assistant Principal at Glastonbury High School. After her retirement, and much to the surprise of her family and friends, Mary ran for the state Senate, where she served with distinction for two terms as the Senate Chair of the Public Health Committee during the first years of the COVID pandemic.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in celebration of Mary's life at 10:00 am on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, St. Joseph Church, 177 West Main St., Meriden, CT 06451. Everyone is asked to meet at church. Burial will be private.
