Mary Joann Meadows Aistrop, a cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024, at her home in Pembroke, Virginia. Born on May 30, 1931, in Giles County, Virginia, Joann's life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness, hard work, and the joy found in the simple pleasures of life.
Joann grew up in the community she loved. Her parents, Samuel Meadows and Helen Price Meadows, instilled in her the values of family and community that would become the cornerstones of her life. Though she was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Nancy Stone and Martha Merix, Joann's spirit of generosity and warmth was a legacy she passed on to all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Joann dedicated herself to creating a loving home for her children, David Aistrop, Jeff Aistrop, Timothy Blake Meadows, and Rebecca Ann Meredith, along with her son-in-law, Gary. Her nurturing heart extended beyond her immediate family to her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life. Joann's sisters, Linda Myers and Alice Hylton, along with a host of nieces and nephews, also shared in the richness of her affection.
Joann's professional life was marked by her diligent service in housekeeping at Virginia Tech. A woman of many talents, Joann had a passion for cooking, which was one of the many ways she expressed her love for her family and friends. Her garden was a place of solace, where she cultivated both flowers and friendships. As a homemaker, she took pride in creating a warm and inviting space where all felt welcome.
Joann's love for children was evident in her enjoyment of babysitting, especially when it came to her cherished grandbabies. Her gentle guidance and playful spirit enriched their lives immeasurably and fostered countless precious memories.
Her unwavering dedication to her family, her kindness, and her eagerness to help others will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Virginia with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. A guestbook is available to send condolences to the family by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com. The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the Aistrop family.
