Mary Barmore, age 70, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 21, 2025. She was born on November 27, 1954 to Joe and Dianne McCauley in Mineola, Texas.
She was raised in Uvalde in her early life, and moved to
Corpus Christi, Texas where she affectionally called home for over 50 years. As seasons changed, and winter wreaked havoc on cities across the United States, Mary was often heard remarking that she was glad to be a Corpus Christi girl where it is always warm and the sun always shines.
Mary married the love of her life Wayland Barmore on February 7, 1993. Bringing to the marriage 3 amazing daughters, she knew she found "the one" by the way he treated her daughters as his own. Even as he discovered that 3 girls were a world of excitement and adventure no one could prepare him for! Together they partnered to create a family home fully of laughter, creativity, honesty and safety.
She will always be remembered for her pride in being a wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother; coffee milk; hollering and rubbing her hands together when she was excited; how the flip-flop cadence of her sandals grew faster and faster each morning as she drank her coffee; how every cat in the neighborhood also called her house home; how no matter what you had done, she would be there for you to help and offer her love; how she instilled in all her "girls" the importance of using their voice in this world; books were often her best friends; her laugh; her hugs; how no matter how uncharted the road in front of her was, she would trail blaze to boldly protect her loved ones; and how she trusted God through all her seasons, even when she was mad at Him, offering always her faith as her most generous gift.
Mary is preceded in death by her father Ernest Joe McCauley; her mother Dianne Dooley McCauley; her brother Samuel L. McCauley; and her great grandmother Johnny L. Binns. We as a family take comfort that she is now wrapped in hugs from her heavenly loved ones who she dearly missed.
Left to cherish her memories are her soul mate and best friend, Wayland Barmore; her 3 aforementioned amazing daughters Melissa Stroup, Jenna Pitmon and Kristin Gallegos; 2 sons-in-law who loved Mary as a second mom, Anthony Stroup and Art Gallegos; her granddaughters who sparked more joy in Mary than ever seen before: Alison Hidalgo and Madeline Hidalgo; and extra-specially her great granddaughter Izabella; her 2 beautiful sisters and their partners Ann Hagens (Bobby Hagens) and Kim McCauley (Jere Sanders); a beloved nephew who Mary considered a son, Nathaniel Pitmon; her many wonderful nieces and nephews, fantastic extended family, and friends who became her family. All she dearly loved - too many to name yet all held such a real space in her heart.
A visitation will be held at 11AM on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Memorial Service at 11:30AM. Interment to follow at 1:00PM.
