Mary Lucy Barr, born on July 4, 1932, in Scott County, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi. She led a fulfilling life dedicated to her family, career, and passions.
Mary's journey through education took her from a graduate of Central High School to later in life graduating from Hinds Community Junior College, showcasing her commitment to personal growth. She was a devoted member of Andrew Chapel Methodist Church, where her faith and community involvement were a source of joy for her. Mary was an accomplished accountant at the Jackson Chamber of Commerce
Tennis was more than just a sport for Mary; it was a lifelong passion that she pursued with vigor, playing with the JLTA Association until the impressive age of 82. Her spirit on the court mirrored the warmth and love she shared with those around her.
Mary leaves behind a loving family, including her daughters, Linda Gober and Sue Pierce, and son-in-law Larry Pierce. She is also remembered by her sister, Betty Moore, and her beloved grandchildren: James Gober, Lee Gober, Christine Gober, Chris Papizan, Claire Papizan, and Jonathan Papizan. In addition, Mary took great joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Kade Martin, Jackson Papizan, and Palmer Papizan.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Mary Ossie Beard and Warren Columbus Beard, her brothers J.C. Murphy, Willet Beard, and Billy Raye Beard, her sister Sadie Crane, her son Jimmie Perkins, she was also preceded in death by her former husbands, James Lee Perkins and James Charles Barr.
Mary will be remembered for her radiant spirit, her love for her family, and her unwavering dedication to her passions. Visitation will be held on June 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi, starting at 1:00 PM. The graveside and burial will be a private service for the family.
