Mary M. Combest, 91, of Columbus, passed from this life at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at her home.
Mrs. Combest was born July 23, 1932, in Columbus, the daughter of Charles V. and Gladys F. Ward Walters.
She married John R. Combest July 6, 1952; he preceded her in death January 7, 1977.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, American Legion and VFW auxiliary past president.
She was formerly employed at Arvin Industries, CP Electronics, Four Seasons Retirement Center and Sterling House as head cook and a CNA at Columbus Convalescent Center.
She enjoyed traveling, sewing crafts, dancing, making quilts, crochet, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Mary (Eric) Bridgwater of Wellington, KS, Nancy J. (Johnny) Perez of Columbus, Brenda L. (Tomas) Perez of Columbus and John W. (Melissa) Combest of Douglass, KS; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Doris) Walters of FL and Billy Walters of AZ and a sister, Patty Allman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Salley Ann Combest Spurgeon; granddaughter, Julie Perez; great-granddaughter, Karolina Spurgeon; brother, Kenneth F. Walters; sister, Betty Johnson; half-brother, Charles Thurman Walters and a half-sister, Hazel Armstrong.
A Mass of Christian burial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Chris Wadelton officiating.
Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
She will be laid to rest next to her late husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
